Research Highlight: Ethical and Legal Considerations of Mood Enhancement Technology

Erik Kamenjasevic from KU Leuven recently published a paper in Frontiers in Human Dynamics that delves into the ethical and legal landscapes of mood enhancement technologies (mood HETs).  It explores societal concerns, ethical dilemmas, and human rights implications,  The study examines arguments related to justice, identity, autonomy, dignity, privacy, and safety, and calls for a balanced approach to regulation and policy-making.  It underscores the need for further research to address unresolved issues and ensure responsible development and use of mood HETs.

This research aligns with the POTION project’s goals by addressing the ethical frameworks crucial for developing interpersonal and emotional technologies. It highlights the importance of safeguarding ethical principles when developing human mood enhancement technology.
