Patent Application Published for POTION Project

Exciting News: Patent Application Published for POTION Project

We are thrilled to announce that the POTION project has reached a major milestone with the publication of its patent application. The patent, titled “Method and Apparatus for the Selective Isolation of Single or Multiple Compounds from Complex Mixtures,” has been officially published under WO2024194405 and is now accessible via the WIPO Patentscope database. The patent was filed by University of Pisa, with inventors Fabio Di Francesco, Matyas Ripszam, Tobias Andreas Christian Bruderer, and Federico Maria Vivaldi.

This patent application represents a critical step forward in protecting the innovative methods and technologies developed by the POTION team.  The invention introduces a solution to the long-standing challenge of analyzing highly complex chemical mixtures, such as those found in food and fragrance samples. Despite the advancements in comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GC×GC), the separation and isolation of individual components in these intricate mixtures remain difficult. This invention presents a novel approach that allows complex mixtures to be separated and selectively analyzed, either as single or multiple compounds, thereby enabling more accurate detection and analysis.

By addressing the limitations of current methods, this technology provides enhanced resolution and improved capabilities for analyzing VOCs, offering significant benefits for industries reliant on chemical analysis of complex mixtures. This advancement promises to improve the identification and separation of compounds, making it easier to isolate distinct chemicals from these challenging mixtures.

Stay tuned for further updates as we continue to explore the potential of this innovation and its impact on chemical analysis and related fields!
